A mini-series on the life of drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman will air on Spanish-language network Univision starting April 23.
This co-production with Netflix traces Guzman’s rise in Mexico’s criminal underworld from the time he began working with the Guadalajara Cartel in 1985.
The story spans three decades, covering his rise to power, various prison terms, daring escapes and eventual capture and extradition to the United States, where he is currently awaiting trial.
Well-known Colombian actor Marco de la O will play the role of Guzman.
According to Univision, the series will air in three separate cycles throughout the year. The number of episodes is still unknown, as are the dates Netflix will show the series.
Guzman’s next court appearance in the United States is set for May 5.
