The Lake Chapala Society (LCS) board of directors dropped a bombshell on guests present at its May 14 open meeting, announcing President Steve Balfour’s resignation in the session’s final minutes.
According to a previous decision revealed just one day before the March 19 Annual General Meeting, Balfour was due to step down at an extraordinary membership assembly scheduled for August 20. But LCS leadership roles have been in flux since Executive Director Luis Pacheco relinquished his job in mid-April.
Item 11 on the board’s May agenda was a report from the executive committee that had met in a closed session starting 40 minutes beforehand to discuss the search process for Pacheco’s replacement.
The board first voted to approve the wording of a job description and the diffusion of the salaried employment opening. However, board members ignored a suggestion that bilingual Spanish and English abilities be added to the list of candidate qualifications.
