The Charros de Jalisco’s return to the Mexican Baseball League (LMB) has been, frankly, disappointing, with the Zapopan-based team out of the playoff spots and sitting 8th in the 10-team Northern Division with a 16-27 win/loss record.
However, the Charros last week made history by setting a new LMB record for home runs in a single inning.
The Charros smacked five consecutive homers during the eighth inning of their June 3 game against the Tigres de Quintana Roo at their home Pan American Stadium.
The Jalisco team broke the record of four home runs in a single inning set by the Águilas de Veracruz in April 2005.
Charros’ historic inning began with José Guadalupe Chávez connecting with a double, before the party began with Luis Sardiñas blasting the first homer. The other home run heroes were Vimael Machín, Anthony Giansanti, Greg Bird and Oswaldo Arcia.
