Paws and Claws, the pet spay/neuter committee of Amigos de Bucerias, held their annual Pet Picnic on Valentine’s Day, while another local civic group, Siempre con la Gente,sponsored a Walk With Your Pet event.

New golf course

Construction of a new 18-hole golf course in Nuevo Vallarta designed by Greg Norman has been going on for less than six months, but already five holes are completed. 

According to developers Vidanta Golf, the first nine holes should be ready for play in May.
The second nine holes are set to be finished by November. The course will be able to accommodate 260 players per day.

According to the local Convention and Visitors Bureau, the new course is in response to increased demand for golfing in the region.  

Vidanta Golf Operations Director Jesús Torres says Carlos Ortiz, the 23-year-old Mexican golfer in his rookie season on the U.S. PGA Tour, will become the brand ambassador and representative for Grupo Vidanta.

Meanwhile, Norman will finish his second golf course in Riviera Nayarit, in Litibu, by year’s end.  Golfers will then be able to choose from seven local courses: at El Tigre, Flamingos, Litibú, Punta Mita Pacífico, Punta Mita Bahía and El Nayar (which recently changed its name to Vidanta Golf Nicklaus Design Nuevo Vallarta).

Market reborn

If you miss your favorite Wednesday market vendors who were previously at the Forever Spring market on Lazaro Cardenas in Bucerias, here’s some good news: “They can be found in the new market called Roots,” says organizer Alison Normanton. There were some issues which just couldn’t be resolved in order to keep the Forever Spring market operating at its old location.

Bucerias Festival

The annual Fiestas Patronales of Nuestra Señora de la Paz, the church in Bucerias Centro, runs from January 16 through 24. As usual, there will be plenty of games of chance, food and drink booths, musical entertainment and carnival rides – pretty much something for everyone.

Bike & food tour

Bici Bucerias’ bike and food tour departs from their office on Lazaro Cardenas, across from the Decameron Resort, every Wednesday at 9 a.m.  The first one was held on December 2.

Classic Rock Festival

The first Vallarta-Nayarit Classic Rock Festival, combining some of the best rock music from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, took place this past weekend in the Hard Rock Hotel Vallarta’s Sunset Garden.
