The Chapala government shut down five local commercial enterprises last weekend for violating the norms mandated for the two-week Covid-19 prevention campaign that started on Friday, October 31.
The partial lockdown will remain in effect until November 13, barring an extension (if ordered by Governor Enrique Alfaro).
The local government activated a team of 200 City Hall staffers for a boots-on-the-ground operation to control compliance with the temporary mitigation measures. Civil protection and police officers were dispatched to keep visitors from congregating on the malecón boardwalks in Chapala, San Antonio Tlayacapan, Ajijic and other prime public spaces.
Inspections of 2,455 businesses were carried out between Friday evening and Monday morning. The ones that were closed included liquor stores and restaurants located in Chapala, Ajijic and Atotonilquillo that were caught operating after permitted hours.
