Push to finish Red Cross facility

The new Cruz Roja Chapala (CRC) healthcare facility is near completion, but still needs around six million pesos to finish construction and equip the building. Fundraising efforts are now going into high gear to get the job done.

pg11aOn Tuesday, May 28, Ernesto “Tito” López González set off from Chapala on a 270-kilometer  bicycle ride circumventing Lake Chapala to collect contributions to the project.  What made his ride especially challenging is that Tito has one leg, which is why the effort was called Two Wheels and One Leg.

Tito spent three days on the road, followed by a Cruz Roja ambulance, making his way to Tizapán el Alto and Ocotlán before returning home to Chapala. His noble effort shaved close to a million pesos off the fund-raising goal.

The next benefit for the CRC building project is a Concert in the Park scheduled for Sunday, June 9, 5 p.m. at the Lake Chapala Society (LCS) in celebration of Steve Balfour’s 70th birthday.  Booked as “With a Little Help from My Friends,” the event features vocal artists Roy Cruz, Maru Prado Conti, Tim Johnson, Luis Sánchez, Marco Antonio González, Kieta Fox and Roy Haynes.

Tickets are on sale at the LCS office and through LakeChapalaSociety.com and are priced at 500 pesos for VIP table seating and 350 pesos for general seating.

Donations may also be channeled through https://lakechapalacharities.org/ or Banamex bank account No. 4335520373.
