If a proposal by Jalisco state legislator Claudia Murguía becomes law, this state will become the fourth in Mexico to allow parents to change the order of their offspring’s two surnames.
The entire municipal police force of the town of San Juan de los Lagos, numbering 160 in total, has been suspended and sent to Jalisco Police Academy for reevaluation.

Cancer drug shortage
Reports of a shortage of cancer medicines for children at Guadalajara’s public Hospital Civil are gaining ground. The director of the Nariz Roja charity told reporters Thursday that the hospital has run out of stocks of eight important medicines required by children undergoing chemotherapy: Imatinib, Vincristina, Vinblastina, Ifosfamida, Dacarbacina, Daunorrubicina, Bleomicina and Amifostina. The charity has managed to obtain the medicines thanks to donations.
Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro has come out fighting after recent criticism of his government’s efforts to clean up the heavily polluted Santiago River, which begins its 562-kilometer-long journey in Lake Chapala and flows into the Pacific Ocean a few miles to the north of San Blas, Nayarit.
