Iron man gets to work

The Ajijic Plaza remodeling project is finally back on track, with local iron sculptor Ramon Heredia Lares picking up his blowtorch early last week to begin work on the artistic railing that will wrap around the central kiosko bandstand. Although he is barely getting started with the basic framework, his sketches show images of ducks, herons, pelicans and other elements of Lake Chapala’s rich bird life that are focused in the design. The artist expects it will take him another two months to complete the project, including finishing touches to be painted in pastel shades.  

The Naked Stage, which presents minimalistic play readings for adult theater lovers, presents “Do Not Go Gentle,” a comedy/drama by Susan L. Zeder, on Friday, July 26, Saturday, July 27 and Sunday, July 28.

The second concert in the series of summer concerts organized by Viva la Musica takes place at St. Andrews Church on Sunday, July 21, 4 p.m. (the bar and seating open at 3 p.m.). The performers will be the Cronopios Ensemble and Cuauhtemoc Garcia.

The Lake Chapala Society children’s art program will offer a summer camp running from July 22 through 26 with a selection of workshops in oil painting, watercolors, engraving, papier mache and jewelry-making. 

Centro Regional de Estudios Musicales (CREM), and their professional orchestra directed by Emmanuel Medeles Medina together with CREM’s Children’s Orchestra, is holding its 2013 summer concert at the Auditorio de la Ribera on Saturday, July 6, 7 p.m.  

After much deliberation, The Naked Stage board has decided to go ahead with the June 22 performance of “Occupant” by Edward Albee.
