Ballet de Jalisco presents ‘Giselle’

The state’s only full-time professional troupe presents the premiere of “Giselle,” a romantic classic that tells the tragic story of a young peasant girl who falls in love with a nobleman disguised as a commoner. Four shows in total.


Cirque du Soleil coming to VFG Arena

Cirque du Soleil, the renowned Montreal-based circus arts company, will bring a new show to Guadalajara this November. Ovo, a vibrant production inspired by the world of insects, will be performed at the VFG Arena, located along the Guadalajara-Chapala highway, midway between the city and the lakeside.

Peculiar, blockbuster or local —which exhibition is tops at MUSA? 

Heading to “Ser Agua,” a sophisticated and well-publicized exhibition just opened at the University of Guadalajara’s Museo de Artes (MUSA), I was waylaid by two apparently lesser shows there, one on lucha libre and the other a collection of mostly painting by Jalisco artists. I came away pondering which was my favorite among three very different shows and saturated by the abundance of displays on the museum’s two sumptuous floors surrounding the Jose Clemente Orozco fresco on the ceiling of its ground-floor auditorium. 

North American friendship at May Festival close

Demonstrating without any doubt that trilateral relations—at least in the cultural sphere—are alive and well, Canadian Consul Frank Le (left), U.S. Consul General Amy Scanlon and Sergio Matos, director of the Guadalajara May Festival, attended the festival’s final event last week at the Teatro Degollado.
