The heat is on for the 39th annual Chili Cookoff, the granddaddy of lakeside charity events firing up Friday, February 10 through Sunday, February 12 at Tobolandia Water Park, located on the Chapala-Ajijic highway just west of the Libramiento intersection. Gates open daily at 11 a.m.

Ajijic’s fourth Sangre Viva cultural festival celebrating Mexican identity derived from ancestral roots is set to go this weekend, kicking off first thing Friday, January 27 with the opening of a craft fair at the plaza. 

Little Chapel by the Lake

Sunday, January 29, the Little Chapel welcomes Wendy Johnson, who heads the church’s ministries in San Juan Tecomatlan, to talk about what’s being done in that community, and a vision for the future there.

The Cruz Roja Chapala (CRC) Mexican Extravaganza held last Saturday was a rousing success, with a sell-out crowd packed into the stands for an afternoon of lively entertainment and samplings of gourmet cold cuts, cheeses, fresh fruits and chocolate treats. 

A memorial for Jay Shuffle, who passed away on February 14 last year, will be held at La Bodega in Ajijic, where he played with The Great American Songbook. 

Niños Incapacitados brings back the popular and wacky Trivia Quiz fundraiser, Tuesday, February 7, 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at the Hotel Real in Ajijic.
