Letters To The Editor

Dear Sir,

After many months of griping and complaining about the lack of attention from authorities concerning illegal parking on Ajijic corners

– blocking pedestrians and causing difficult turns – Ricardo and I went to see Vialidad Comandante Jose de Jesus Vargas Michel in Chapala.

What a remarkable public servant! He explained patiently that sometimes his job is made harder by local officials who warn him that enforcing the laws too strictly could hurt tourism. Our viewpoint is that tourism is adversely affected by blocking crosswalks and illegally parking so close to the corner that it makes turning almost impossible! (The law states no parking within six meters of any corner.)

We were both very impressed by the professionalism of Comandante Vargas Michel and thank him for his time and offer to initiate a campaign to educate locals and visitors that the laws of Jalisco apply also to this pueblo.

We hope that corner parking will soon be a thing of the past in Ajijic. Remember: a little walk can do you good!
