Guadalajara golfer Carlos Ortiz has notched up his second best result in his fledgling PGA career with an 11th-place finish in the Farmer's Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, California.
The rookie shot a final round 69 to end the prestigious tournament at six under par, just three strokes behind winner Jason Day of Australia.
Thanks to his fine form, Ortiz moved 27 places up the FedEx Cup rankings to 57th.
Although Ortiz finished ninth in the OHL Classic in Mayakoba in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, his performance at Torrey Pines will be deemed better given the toughness of the course and the higher quality field.
Ortiz has placed in the top 25 in three of the eight PGA tournaments he has contested in the 2014-15 season.
He says he is setting his sights on earning a full-time tour card and qualifying directly for the four "majors" later in the year.
Ortiz's next outing will be at the Northern Trust Open at the Riviera County Club, in Pacific Palisades, California from February 19 to 22.
