With three games of the Liga Mx regular season remaining, the Guadalajara Chivas are virtually guaranteed to make the playoffs following a 3-2 win against hometown rivals Atlas last weekend.
The Chivas are in seventh place in the 18-team pro soccer league table. The top four teams classify directly for the quarter finals, while teams placed fifth to eighth have home field advantage against the ninth- to 12th-placed teams in the “wild card” round.
The Chivas can make up ground on the top places when they take on fourth-placed Cruz Azul (just four points above them) Sunday, October 25, 5:30 p.m. at the Akron Stadium in Zapopan. Atlas, meanwhile, are in 15th place, and still with an outside chance of creeping into the top 12 places and the playoffs, which have been rejigged to allow more teams to progress into the post-season.
