Charros back in Mexico’s top league

The Charros de Jalisco are playing in the Mexican Baseball League (LMB) for the first time in several decades.

pg8aThe Guadalajara-based outfit starts the season with a road series against the Rieleros de Aguascalientes from April 12 to 14. Recently signed U.S. pitcher Dereck Rodríguez starts for the Charros in the inaugural game.  The 31-year-old Arlington, Texas-born native (of Puerto Rican heritage) has a 12-16 win/loss record in Major League Baseball with three teams: the Twins, Giants and Braves.

The home opener at the Charros Stadium in Zapopan is on Tuesday, April 16, 7:30 p.m. against the Sultanes de Monterrey, with the rest of the series unfolding on Wednesday and Thursday, both games starting at the same time.

The Charros will stay at home for a three-game series against the Aguascalientes  Rieleros from Friday to Sunday, April 19 to 21. Times are: Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 5 p.m.   

Tickets at boletomovil.com or the stadium box office.  Prices for individual games are 180 to 900 pesos; and 540 to 2,700 pesos for a package for the first six home games. Season tickets for all of Charros’ 26 regular season games go from 2,250 to 11,250 pesos.
