Charros ready for busy July at home stadium

Local baseball fans get 12 opportunities to see the Charros de Jalisco in action in July.

pg7bFour, three-game series are scheduled in July: Friday to Sunday, July 5-7 (vs. Monterrey); Tuesday to Thursday, July 9-11 (vs. Dos Laredos); Friday to Sunday, July 12-14 (vs. Tijuana); and Tuesday to Thursday, July 23-25 (vs. Unión Laguna).

The Charros play in the Mexican Baseball League (LMB) at their stadium (the Panamericano) in Zapopan, just off the northern Guadalajara ring road (periferico). Weekday games start at 7:30 p.m., Saturdays at 6 p.m. and Sundays at 5 p.m.

Tickets are available online at boletomovil.com, or at the stadium box office.  Prices range from 50 to 650 pesos (VIP seats behind home plate).

The Charros lie in eighth place in the ten-team Northern Division of the LMB, 13.5 games back of the leaders, Union Laguna.  More importantly, with only one month to go before the regular season ends, they are nine games behind the division’s fifth-place team, Tijuana, the position the Charros need to be to get a wild-card playoff spot.  Unless the team has an amazing run of results, reaching the playoffs looks out of the question.

LMB rosters feature many of Mexico’s top players, combined with U.S. and Latin American players, many of whom have played Major League Baseball.

While baseball will always play second fiddle to soccer in the hearts of Tapatios, the Charros are well supported and the atmosphere at home games is lively and family friendly, especially at weekends.
