Considered by many to be the best event of its kind in all of Mexico, the Jalisco Expo Ganadera (Livestock Fair) runs from Thursday, October 21 to Sunday, November 14 at its traditional Tlaquepaque fairground.
The fair attracts the country’s top ranchers exhibiting their finest purebred horses and bulls, as well as prize-winning sheep, dogs, pigs and other animals.
Since its inception in 1967, the Expo has worked to educate younger and older generations about the diversity of farm animals, farming culture and, more recently, about the developments in genetically enhanced livestock.
If enormous cattle don’t float your boat, there is a stream of other options that don’t involve animal pens or manure. You can appreciate the cattle in other ways – by sampling a smorgasbord of barbecued goodies or admiring the leather products on sale. Around 20 restaurants and food booths will be set up on the fairgrounds, catering to all tastes and budgets.
