Canadian premiers want to ditch Mexico from trade deal

It’s not only Donald Trump that Mexico needs to be wary of in the coming months and years; loud conservative Canadian voices are also making themselves heard.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford recently suggested removing Mexico from the North American trade agreement (USMCA), stating that Mexico has become “a backdoor for Chinese cars, auto parts, and other products into Canadian and American markets.” This week Ford said he chaired a call with the other 12 provincial and territorial premiers who told him they too would like Canada to strike a direct bilateral trade deal with the United States.
