Businessman fights for life after armed assault

A well-known local entrepreneur was seriously injured during an armed assault at his place of business around 1 p.m. on Monday, November 23.

Juan Pablo Hecht was apparently transacting the purchase of an automobile when two armed men on a motorcycle suddenly pulled up outside his pool supply outfit in Riberas del Pilar, at the exact moment the cash was changing hands.

As Hecht ran for cover, the bandits opened fire, landing gunshots in his abdomen and spine.

He was rushed to a private hospital in Guadalajara, where at press time he remained under treatment in the ICU.

Initial social media postings the next day put out pleas for blood donations. Since then Hope for Hecht fund-raising campaigns have been started to help cover his medical expenses. Tomahawk Steakhouse, located on the Chapala-Mezcala highway near San Nicolás de Ibarra, will contribute proceeds from meals served Saturday, November 28. For reservations call 331-866-7906. Plaza Chapala Hotel is holding a raffle for a free overnight stay in its master suite, with breakfast and complementary temazcal sweat bath for two. The ticket price of 250 pesos may be deposited in HSBC account 421316805172 2502 in the name of Hecht’s wife Karina Chávez. Contact her for full details at 331-799-9038.
