Frequent users of the Carretera Guadalajara-Chapala—one of Jalisco’s most traveled highways—can expect further disruptions to traffic flow over the next few weeks.
Extensive work to improve the six-lane highway, particularly the lateral lanes, has been ongoing since the beginning of the year. This work has mainly focused on the section between the Guadalajara ring road (Periférico) and the city airport, and has now extended to other parts of the highway towards Chapala.
Since May 26, resurfacing work has been underway on the nine-kilometer stretch of the highway from the El Salto interchange to the Santa Rosa Junction, which leads to Atequiza, Poncitlán, and Ocotlán. According to the Ministry of Transport and Communications (SCT), traffic flow on this stretch will be altered in mid-June, potentially causing delays.
Travelers may want to allow slightly more time for their journeys.
The counter-flow is expected to last around two weeks, the SCT says.
