Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro paid an official visit to Chapala on Friday, July 25 to accompany Mayor Alejandro Aguirre in inaugurating the rehabilitation of Avenida Francisco I. Madero.
The comprehensive renewal project began in August 2022. The work covered 1.55 kilometers, stretching from Paseo Ramón Corona near the waterfront to the intersection with Calle Cuauhtémoc at the north end of the city. It entailed installing new underground water and sewage systems and storm drains, replacing the street’s stone pavers with a solid stamped concrete surface, adding bicycle tracks connecting to the Chapala-Jocotepec Ciclovía, and improving sidewalks and pedestrian crossings. Garden planters and furnishings were also added to enhance the urban landscape.
The project was carried out by 11 private companies contracted by Jalisco’s Department of Infrastructure and Public Works. Two construction outfits carried out the initial stages of the project, and nine others were employed to complete the remaining sections. The total cost of just under 124 million pesos (US$6.6 million) was paid out of the Complementary Fund for Regional Development (FONDEREG).
