Actors’ workshop to present seven amusing scenes

Following the enthusiastic reception of the Bravo! Theatre’s first Actors’ Showcase, fans will be excited to hear that its Acting Scene Study Workshop – open to all every Monday, from 3 to 5 p.m. – will be showing off yet more exceptional talent in a new production.

Seven delightful scenes from plays by Norm Foster, Paddy Chayefsky, Harold Pinter, David Mamet and other great writers are scheduled in the August 17 and 18 performances.

The first piece features Barbara Pruitt and Ken Yakiwchuk in a comedic short play by Pinter called “The Applicant.” It is followed by an amusing scene from “Flamingo Court” by Luigi Creatore, performed by Diane Jones and Connie Davis.

Jutta McAdam and Pam Pettus reprise an old classic in a scene from the famous film “Marty” by Paddy Chayefsky, and then Karen Lowe is very entertaining in her own monologue, “Career Choice  – It’s in the Voice.”

Pinter aficionados will enjoy his rarely performed comedy, “The Black and White,” starring Jutta McAdam and Connie Davis, before Ken Yakiwchuk performs solo in an unusual, short play by David Mamet called “The Dog.”  These two plays are rare and seldom seen treats, as their brevity precludes stand-alone performance and demands inclusion in a collection of short works.

Finally – and not to be outdone by any of the other scenes – Janice Carol and Kathleen Morris take the audience back to the old west with Norm Foster’s witty “Jenny’s House of Joy.”

If, as they say, laughter really is good for the soul, then this production certainly excels itself in the “soul food” department. Don’t miss it!

Performances are Monday, August 17, 7:30-9 p.m. and Tuesday, August 18, 4-5:30 p.m., at the Bravo! Theatre on Rio Bravo, West Ajijic.

Admission is “Pay What You Can.”  Reservations are recommended via email to This email address is being protected from spambots.
