VIVA

Talented concert pianist Rosa Maria Valdez performs at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church on Sunday, June 16, 4 p.m. – the perfect opener for VIVA la Musica’s summer concert series.

Valdez, who has soloed with the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra, has planned a program of lovely, accessible music, starting with Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach’s “Solfeggio” and Beethoven’s piano sonata “Quasi una fantasia.”

After the intermission, Valdez will continue to enchant with a Chopin Nocturne, a Debussy Arabesque and two works by Mexican composers: Manuel Ponce’s popular “Scherzino Mexicano” and “Song without Words” by Alfredo Carrasco.

Her finale will be Franz Liszt’s concert study, “A sigh,” or more musically put in Spanish “Un suspiro.”

During the intermission there will be a cash bar in the garden with champagne, as well as the usual drinks.

Tickets are on sale at the Lake Chapala Society from June 7 through June 14, 10 a.m. to noon, and at Diane Pearl Colleciones.  Tickets are 200 pesos for Viva members, 300 pesos general, with a great offer of a 20-percent discount for the entire series of five concerts for only 800 pesos for VIVA members.

To join VIVA call Ann Barry at 766-2942.

The exhibition will remain in place until July 11.
