Ribera Arts Review - July 15, 2017

Art Garden

Local artists will hold an art exhibition in the garden of the Castillo de la Floresta, Sunday, July 16, 11 a.m. Poetry, music, song and dance will complement the art in this first of many planned Sunday showings at this venue.

LLT Actors Studio

Learn to overcome the fear of auditioning and have some fun at the next Lakeside Little Theatre Playhouse Actors Studio series: “How to Successfully Audition for Live Theatre.”

Want to audition for a play, but don’t know how? Auditioned before, but never been cast? Looking to improve your audition techniques? Then join this fun workshop.

The workshop will cover the process of auditioning and provide tips on how to prepare, as well as practical exercises. And after the audition, what next?  Explanations will be provided about how casting decisions are made.  There will also be a question-and-answer period.

Participants need have no prior acting or audition experience, but should come with a willingness to learn and participate.

The workshop, Tuesday, July 18, 2-5 p.m., is led by Collette Clavadetscher and Candace Luciano.

Piano Concert

Pianist Efrain Ulloa gives a recital at the Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo in Chapala, Thursday, July 20, 7 p.m.

Ulloa is a piano teacher and soloist who resides in Tucson, Arizona, where he studies music at the University of Arizona. He has played in Guadalajara, Chapala and Tepatilan de Morelos, where he was a member of that town’s symphonic orchestra.

The 75-minute program will include pieces by Bach, Haydn, Chopin, Schumann and Rachmaninoff. Call 765-7424 to confirm the concert.

Mariachi Sinfonico

The Mariachi Real Axixic and the Centro Cultural Ajijic present Mariachi Sinfonico, Friday, July 21, 7 p.m. at the Centro Cultural Ajijic. The Mariachi Real team up with the Orquesta Filarmonica Infantil de la Ribera and Lola La Tequilera – all under the direction of Daniel Medeles Cordova – to present “a fun, unique, emotional and unforgettable musical and visual experience.” This event is to raise funds for the center. The cost is 120 pesos.

LLT auditions

The Lakeside Little Theatre is holding auditions for the comedy “Ripcord” by David Lindsay-Abaire Friday, July 21 and 22.

The play, directed by Collette Clavadetscher, will be presented September 29-October 8. She is looking for three women and three men.

The Naked Stage

The female version of “The Odd Couple,” by Neil Simon, is the next production of The Naked Stage Readers’ Theatre to be presented Friday to Sunday, July 28 to 30.

The play debuted on Broadway in 1965 and spurred a film, a TV series and even a cartoon. Finally, Simon revamped the play for the female version in 1985.

In this much-loved comedy, two polar opposite personalities become roommates, one a carefree slob, one an uptight neurotic; hilarity ensues.

The curtain goes up each day at 4 p.m. at theater, located at Hidalgo 261 in Riberas del Pilar. Entrance is 100 pesos.

aQuarius Duo

Cindy Paul and Pancho Martinez (a.k.a., aQuarius Duo) take everybody on their magical mystery tour back to the 1960s and early 70s with iconic songs such as “Get Together,” “Country Roads” and “Imagine.”

Get in the spirit by wearing your best tie-dye or fringe; you might just win the Coolest Hippie Garb prize for the evening!

The aQuarius Duo plays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. every Thursday at La Bodega Restaurant. There’s no cover charge, but be sure to make reservations at (376) 766-1002.
