Theater
• Bare Stage Theatre’s “The Drawer Boy,” by Michael Healey, is a masterclass in storytelling—a rich blend of memory, myth, and misunderstanding. This poignant play follows two aging bachelor farmers, Angus and Morgan, whose quiet lives are disrupted by a young actor researching rural life. As the actor stirs long-buried secrets, the line between reality and fiction blurs, leaving the audience questioning what is true and what’s simply a well-told tale.
Healey’s script is full of witty one-liners and humorous insights into country living, but beneath the laughs, it explores the human condition. The cast delivers standout performances, bringing emotional depth to their characters. “The Drawer Boy” challenges us to consider the impact of our choices and the power of stories—to heal and to harm.
With perfect balance of humor and heart, “The Drawer Boy” is a must-see for lovers of great storytelling, unforgettable characters, and Canadian charm that resonates with a multinational audience. Directed by Darlene Sherwood, the cast features Rob Ferron, Fred Koesling, and Patrick Trotter.
Show dates are Friday, April 25 to Sunday, April 27.
All shows are at 4 p.m. Tickets are 200 pesos on Friday and 300 pesos on Saturday and Sunday. Reservations: Email This email address is being protected from spambots. • Lakeside Little Theatre’s last show of the season is “Grand Horizons” by Beth Wohl, directed by Suki O’Brien. This Tony-nominated comedy is full of joy and pathos, offering a hilarious yet heartbreaking commentary on marriage, family, and the wisdom that comes with age—or not.
Fifty years into her marriage to Bill, Nancy wants a divorce. While her husband is unfazed, their two adult sons are shaken, forced to reexamine everything they thought they knew about their parents’ seemingly happy lives. As the family grapples with their new reality, each must confront their imperfect past and explore how love can be expressed in new and unexpected ways.
The New York Times says, “…[a] clever truth bomb of a play … [a] terrific comedy … which, for all its plot about a marriage’s unforeseen implosion, has another matter urgently on its mind … Wohl’s play is a powerful argument for the full humanity of women in our culture.”
“Grand Horizons” will take the stage from May 2 to 11. Weekday shows are at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday shows are at 4 p.m. Tickets, 400 pesos, are available at the box office, open Wednesday and Thursday, April 30, May 1, 7, and 8 from 10 a.m. to noon and one hour before curtain.
