ECOLOGY FESTIVAL

Guadalajara’s Parque Mirador, overlooking the Huentitan Canyon on the northern edge of the metro area, is hosting its first Ecology Festival Sunday, March 15, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Scheduled activities include live music, an art exhibition, gastronomy zone, crafts for sale, a holistic pavilion,free workshops, yoga master classes. Free entry.

COFFEE & CHOCOLATE

Check out the Festival Artesenal de Café, Chocolate y Mas (coffee, chocolate and more) Saturday, March 14, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, March 15, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. More than 50 exhibitors will be showing off their products at this ethically correct event. Also find insects and other edible creepy crawlies in the gastronomic area. At the Club De Leones, Av. de los Leones 75, Col. Tepeyac Casino, Zapopan (five minutos from Glorieta Chapalita).

IRISH MUSIC

The MexicaIrish band has three dates around St. Patrick’s Day for you to get into the  Celtic mood.

Friday, March 13, 8 p.m. Old Temple’s Bar, López Cotilla 1860, Colonia Americana. Tuesday, March 17, 6 p.m. Mercado Morelos (Morelos and Juan N. Cumplido).  Saturday, March 21, 6 p.m. Cervecería Michelangelo, San Juan Bosco 4551, Colonia La Estancia, Zapopan.

MexicaIrish is a project that began in 2016 to expand awareness about Gaelic, Scottish and Galician culture. Expect music, dance and a party mood.

TEQUILA FESTIVAL

The Trasloma Park on Avenida Mariano Otero (a few blocks from Plaza del Sol) will host a major festival to include tastings, food and entertainment in celebration of National Tequila Day, Saturday, March 21, from 1-7 p.m.

The event will also host the final Tequila Mixology Contest 2020, a nationwide tequila cocktail competition.

The admission price of 700 pesos pre-sold (800 pesos at the door) includes five cocktails, tastings, snacks and entertainment.

From March 21 to 29, 18 restaurants in Guadalajara, and 44 others in Puerto Vallarta, Merida, Tijuana and Mexico City will participate in Tequila Cocktail Week. These restaurants will serve cocktails created by the winners of the 2019 Tequila Mixology Contest. Among the Guadalajara eateries participating are: Talento, Alcalde, Los Amores de Frida, Santo Coyote, iLatina, Bruna, Ofelia Bistro, La Tequila and Anita Li.

BOOK CLUB & LUNCHEON

The English Book Club meeting on Thursday, March 19, 10 a.m. at the American Society (Amsoc) will discuss “The Giver of Stars” by Jojo Moyes (2019). All are welcome.

The St. Patrick’s Day luncheon will follow the meeting, starting around midday. A 10-minute Trivia Quiz will be held after the meal.

JAZZ & SWING

Mercado Vía Libertad, the vibrant and trendy marketplace that features an array of bars, bakeries and eateries in Colonia Americana, offers jazz and swing each Wednesday evening at 8:30 p.m.  Coming up on March 18 is the Carlos Torres Jazz Trío, while the Duques de Harlem perform on March 25. BOOK PRESENTATION

Historian Michael Hogan presents his latest book, “Guns, Grit and Glory: How the US and Mexico Came Together to Defeat the Last Empire in The Americas,” at the American School Library on Tuesday, March 17, 6 p.m.

“This presentation comes at a critical time in current U.S.-Mexico relations and will give the audience insights into our mutual histories and cultures,” says publisher Mikel Miller.  The book has drawn praise from highly respected historians and educators.  “A remarkable account that is a pleasure to read and a reminder of what the two nations can accomplish together,” stated William H. Beezley, Professor of History, University of Arizona, and co-editor of the Oxford History of Mexico.

In addition to the presentation, there will be live music and refreshments. Hogan will also sign copies of his book.

TENNIS CANCELED

The Abierto de Tenis de Zapopan, scheduled March 16 to 21 at the Panamericana Tennis Center, has been cancelled by Women’s Tennis Association (WTA).
