‘Oldies’ fundraiser to bring ‘hope’ to abandoned kids

Rock and More is the perfect name for the Wednesday, November 19 fundraising event at La Huerta. The evening will be filled with the great music from the 1950s through the 1970s, dance contests, raffles and awards for the best hippie costumes. This event promises to be a great kick off for the high season.

Tickets are 150 pesos with proceeds going to help fund Chapala’s Hope for Abandoned Children. The cash bar and available food will help boost the evening’s total income to help these kids.

Hope for Abandoned Children is a home in Chapala that provides shelter and a family environment for seven children and youth who range in age from 6 to 23 years. Some of home’s residents have mental, emotional or learning disabilities. Their families are unable to care for them due to a variety of issues ranging from substance addiction, mental and physical health challenges, or precarious economic conditions.

The main objective of Hope for Abandoned Children is to provide a stable environment while striving to keep the children in school so they can become self-sufficient adults. Elvia Martinez, the housemother, prepares meals, ensures that there is clean clothing, and that the children observe appropriate personal hygiene. Most important, she provides the structure, emotional support and love the children need in order to thrive.

Tickets for the event are available at Diane Pearl Colecciones, ISHOP & Mail, the weekly markets, or by contacting Graciela Ducet at This email address is being protected from spambots.
