Hospitality students remain focused through power outage

The students at the hospitality school in Jaltepec received an unexpected lesson in coping with the unexpected while their guests received an additional holiday tradition during the December 3 evening Christmas dinner event.

With guests due to arrive at 6 p.m., on the night of the event the electricity to the school failed at 4 p.m. By the end of the cocktail hour, the organizers realized that without power to the keyboard the concert by Los Cantantes del Lago could not go on. With trepidation they made the announcement to the guests just as the students began to flood the terrace and the dining room with more than 100 candles.

Some of the guests accepted a drink on the house; others were enchanted by the unexpected candlelit ambiance. While the party spirit thrived and grew on the terrace, in the kitchen the students were putting the finishing touches on the dinner – with the help of more candles and the reliable heat  from gas stoves and ovens.
