Weekly Worship - December 23, 2023

Heritage Baptist Church

Friends, to warn of the dangers of hell, as described by Jesus Christ, His apostles and the Old Testament prophets, is a loving gesture towards the unsaved, in hope that they might be delivered from God’s judgement.

These men spoke of hell because it is real. But what is hell? In Mark 9:48, Jesus clearly describes hell as a place: “[I]t is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.”

The wicked claim that God is an unkind dictator, but Ezekiel says: “Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, declares the Lord GOD, and not rather that he should turn from his way and live” (18:23)?

Why, then, is there a hell? Because God is righteous, immutable and required by His own justice to cast the wicked into such a place as hell.

Lakeside Presbyterian Church

Sunday, December 24, Pastor Wayne will talk about “The  Friends of God.” The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.

In life we sometimes see unequal relationships. It might seem on the surface that two people might have little in common. But the relationships work. Indeed some unequal relationships are intentional. I knew of one woman who would always reach out to somebody who needed a friend.

She would selflessly become a friend—a prayer partner to cope with life’s troubles—a shoulder to cry on—a word of encouragement when the other person was down.

Now consider the most unequal relationship you can imagine. We are offered friendship with the Almighty Creator of the Universe. Jesus said to his disciples, “You are my friends if you do what I command you,” (John 15:14). At Christmas we are reminded of the closeness of God as the Word became flesh and lived among us.

The English language service is at 9:30 a.m., which also streams live at facebook.com/LPCChapala.

If you need a ride, or more information, call 376-106-0853 before 4 p.m. on Thursday.
