Letter To The Editor - January 25, 2025

Dear Sir,

I just read “Governor drops good news bombshell” in this week’s paper.

I live in lower La Floresta, on Camino Real, where the streets take a huge beating in and, most importantly, after the rainy season.

I complain at least once per week to the Fraccionamiento. The administrator said she needed six million pesos to do urgent road repairs. We just got a 20 percent increase in Fracc fees … so where’s all the money going?

Today, the office deployed at least four men to cut leaves from a large tree on Lago, but no one is filling the potholes.

Some of the roads have potholes one meter deep. This is extremely dangerous.

The state government is investing US$24 million to renovate a park in Chapala but does nothing to repair the critical roads.  Most know Camino Real is the second Carretera.

Someone told me Chapala is responsible not the Fracc. However, it does deploy guys to paint the curbs white, cut leaves from trees and, once in a blue moon, throw some dirt or sand in a hole. So who’s responsible?

Maybe I should also throw in irresponsible CFE (the Federal Electricity Commission). This past rainy season, a branch from a tree inside the horse path touched an electrical wire and caused a fire.

This is such a disgrace.

Thanks for all you do for the community. Please help us!

Melinda Marinoff

Editor’s response:

According to Chapala’s press chief, the state government is responsible for maintaining the Chapala-Joctepec highway, while the municipality is in charge of upkeep and repairs to interior streets, except those located within privately owned condominium complexes.

Residents may register reports with the Citizen Attention office by WhatsAp 33-3227-4444, telephone 376-765-8000, or in person at Chapala City Hall, weekdays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.. Include your name and phone number, a brief description of the problem, location and photographs.
