Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. will fight Tapatio Saul “Canelo” Alvarez for the super welterweight world championship in a pay-per-view showdown at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday, September 14.

It’s already been dubbed the “fight of the 21st century” and would propel Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s), the 23-year-old pretender from Guadalajara, to instant superstar status should he become the first boxer to defeat 36-year-old Mayweather (44-0, 26 KO’s).

The fight between the undisputed number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world and Alvarez looks set to break all kinds of records. It is estimated that Mayweather will pocket a record 41.5 million dollars for the fight, which will earn its promoters record gate receipts of 19.1 million dollars and, potentially, record pay-per-view revenue.

The belt that will be presented to the winner will also set a new record, says World Boxing Council President Jose Sulaiman. Made with three kilograms of 24-carat gold and Italian Ferrari leather, its estimated value is around half a million dollars.
