Lake Chapala Baptist

Sin is the atmosphere of the world apart from God, the natural breath of the unbelieving heart. The soul without faith does not slowly wander into darkness; it is born there, dwelling beneath the shadow of separation, living by self rather than by the Spirit of God. But the one awakened by Christ is called out from that death into life, translated from darkness into the kingdom of light. Though the believer may stumble in weakness along the narrow way, sin is no longer their dwelling place nor their master. Their life now flows from faith, and grace continually draws them nearer to the heart of God.

Unitarian Universalist

Ted Fahy will talk about “Why We Need God” at the Sunday, June 14 service of the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.

All ancient civilizations—Mayan, Navajo, Akkadian, Hindu, Hebrew—have had origin stories, including Gods, to explain the beginnings of the world and of humanity. Today, the sense of awe in the presence of the vast unknown that characterizes those stories has largely disappeared—and so has belief in the Divine.

Is there room for the Sacred in the 21st Century? What do we need to be open to and experience the Transcendent?

The Service Associate is D’Vorah Kelley and the musician is Wiley Beveridge.

All services of the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship are held at San Lucas 19, Riberas de Pilar. For more information: lcuuf.org. Services are broadcast live. See the website for Zoom directions.

Common Ground Fellowship

Little Chapel by the Lake

Sunday, June 14, Dr. Ted Rogers continues his series on the book of Romans. Too often we view salvation as “I was saved, so I will go to heaven,” and forget that there is an entire life we are to live between point A and point B. Ted says,  “In my life I’ve driven from Denver, Colorado to Banff, Canada, from San Francisco to Carmel, from Rome to Tuscany, from Zurich to Lucerne, and many other stunning journeys. I would have missed out on so much if my focus had only been on the starting and ending points.  I would have missed out on so much if my focus had only been on the starting and ending points. Why then do we look back to the moment of our salvation, and forward to our destination in heaven, and ignore this thing in between called “life?” Join us this Sunday as he explores the joy of living our lives in the state of full reconciliation with God.

Additionally, we accept donations of clothing and non-perishable food items that go directly to families in need in our purple donation box in front of the Chapel. Among our missions, we also host Saturday’s car wash fundraiser for Mama Cleo’s Boys’ Home, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This week in our series Everything Is Never Enough, what if enjoying life isn’t a distraction from wisdom—but the result of it? What if enjoying life isn’t a distraction from wisdom—but the result of it? Ecclesiastes tells us: Eat your food with gladness. Drink your wine with a joyful heart. Enjoy the people you love.
