Wearing the traditional garb of a Catholic priest, Alberto Hernández Romero, 42, was detained by officers in the San Juan de Dios area of the city Tuesday.
A trader in the market said she paid the imposter 300 pesos to “bendicir” her locale before realizing her mistake. The phony servant of God also offered other services to market vendors, including providing a church-approved divorce for 20,000 pesos and obtaining positions as teachers in the Education Department for 25,000 pesos. Hernández is also believed to have visited local hospitals, soliciting quickie confessions in return for a “tip.”
