Police detain ATM scammers

According to the police report, the scammers had modified the entry slot to the ATM so that customers’ cards would get stuck once inserted.    At this point one of the con men would enter the booth offering assistance.  But while “extracting” the card from the slot, he craftily switched it with another card, pocketing the original.  The con man quickly handed back the phony card before making his retreat to a parked car where an associate was waiting.

Police were not clear about how many times the Peruvian tricksters attempted the con at the same ATM but it appears to have been on several occasions.  Luckily, a suspicious witness called the cops before the pair were able to make a getaway.

Police said they found seven cards of different banks wedged in the belt of one of the con men who carried out the scams.
