Triple slaying at Lopez Cotilla restaurant

Three diners have been gunned to death at an eatery on Lopez Cotilla’s popular “Restaurant Row,” one block from the Centro Magno mall.

Witnesses told police that just after 10 p.m. on Thursday, November 19,  at least five men, dressed in all black and armed with high-calibre weapons, got out of a Dodge Ram pick up that had pulled up outside “El Marques” Restaurant at the corner of Lopez Cotilla and Calderon de la Barca.

Several of the gunmen sprinted to the back of the restaurant and opened fire at a table where four men were dining.  After discharging their weapons for around 30 seconds, the men ran out of the establishment and escaped in the pick up.

Police said they found 29 bullet casings at the scene.

Three of the diners died in the restaurant. The fourth was rushed to hospital, where he underwent surgery and is now said to be stable.

One of the deceased, Daniel Ruan Segoviano, 38, reportedly worked at Guadalajara’s Mercado de Abastos wholesale market. The line of work of the other men, aged 28 and 35,  has not been released.  Police have yet to indicate a motive for the slayings and say families of the deceased are no being as cooperative as they wished.

According to one newspaper report, “El Marques” was characterized by its “luxuriant decor, high prices and attractive – mostly foreign – female service staff.”  The restaurant has not opened since the incident.
