A lineup of major free concerts is being prepared in Guadalajara for the World Cup, which begins June 11.
Rock giants Maná and ranchera star Alejandro Fernández are already confirmed; and opera legend Plácido Domingo is in talks for a surprise appearance.
The gigs will take place at the Minerva Glorieta, which will be transformed into a Fan Fest–style zone with big screens for match broadcasts and live music.
Maná will perform on the evening of June 17, the night before Mexico’s group stage match against South Korea. Alejandro Fernández will take the stage on June 25, the eve of the Spain-Uruguay match, which Jalisco Governor Pablo Lemus has called “the best game of the entire first phase.” Both concerts will be free and open to the public.
Beyond the confirmed headliners, Lemus revealed he is actively pursuing two additional acts. The first is Domingo, whom the governor invited during a meeting at the Fitur tourism fair in Madrid in January. The governor is also seeking a Colombian artist — possibly for a free concert in Puerto Vallarta — to celebrate Colombia’s presence in Guadalajara, where the team will play against the Republic of Congo.
