San Antonio malecón upgrades unveiled

The Chapala government unveiled recent improvements to the San Antonio Tlayacapan waterfront malecón on Tuesday, August 4.

pg13bThe upgrades to the town’s principal recreational area included the removal of tons of aquatic weeds accumulated in the adjacent bay. These had blocked views of Lake Chapala and served as a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

Clusters of reeds and other natural vegetation have been conserved elsewhere along the shoreline to serve as habitat for wild birds and protection for reproduction of endemic fish.

The public park’s picnic areas, basketball court, playground and outdoor exercise equipment have been spruced up with repairs and fresh paint, and a number of trees planted to make it more attractive and useful to the townspeople and visitors.
