High speed chase through Ajijic streets

Saturday, December 16, state police patrols stationed on the Chapala-Jocotepec highway pursued a suspicious red SUV with two men aboard, triggering a high-speed chase through the interior streets of Ajijic, with random gunfire discharged along the way,  witnessed by residents.

pg1aThe incident started when the driver of the car ignored police indications to pull off the road, speeding away on a circuitous route through the town to evade the chasing patrol cars. As they tried to get away, the occupants of the vehicle fired at the officers, who returned the fire.

The driver finally lost control of the car after crashing just before crossing the highway on Calle Colón. With the vehicle blocking the narrow street, the two suspects jumped out and managed to escape on foot to avoid detention.

Inside the abandoned car, investigating officers subsequently found a backpack containing 36 packets of marijuana and 1,500 small doses of granulated material resembling crystal meth, as well as automatic weapon ammunition and 48,000 pesos in cash.

A press release issued by the Jalisco Security Department stated that no one was injured during the incident. The Jalisco-plated vehicle that was seized corresponds to a November 2022 auto theft report.
