Mexico’s Winter Olympian

Competing under the Mexican flag, skier Prince Hubertus von Hohenlohe will become a six-time Olympian at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, which got underway on Friday, February 7.

The lone Mexican competitor is a descendent of the Austrian royal family but was born in Mexico City and has a half-Mexican grandmother.  A singer, photographer, businessman and part-time skier, he has competed in four previous Olympics (starting in Sarajevo in 1984). Dubbed by NBC as “the most interesting Olympian in the world,” he is fluent in five languages and heir to an automobile fortune.
