Charting Patricia’s remorseless course

On Thursday afternoon, Hurricane Patricia was located about 250 miles south of Manzanillo, Colima, or about 355 miles south-southeast of Cabo Corrientes, Jalisco.

The storm reached hurricane status early Thursday morning and Category 4 status, with maximum sustained winds of 130 mph, early Thursday afternoon, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).  The severity of the storm could provoke life-threatening flash floods and mud slides, they say. Emergency teams are standing by in both Colima and Jalisco, and residents and visitors are advised to stay indoors when the hurricane makes landfall sometime Friday afternoon or evening.
