February 29, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador inaugurated the 50.1-kilometer “Section Five” of the Maya Tourist Train, running from the Cancún Airport to Playa del Carmen. For the time being, there are three daily departures from the airport to Playa del Carmen, at 10:30 a.m., 1:30 and 4:30 p.m.
Electric buses will transport passengers from the airport’s terminals to the train station. The Campeche to Cancún and Cancún to Palenque sections of the route opened in December 2022. The remaining part of the 1,500-kilometer route circling the Yucatan peninsula is scheduled to open in June.
