More delays for outer Guadalajara bypass

Motorists who had hoped to speed down a stretch of the new 110-kilometer Macrolibramiento (outer Guadalajara beltway) next month will have to wait until next spring.

Only 30 kilometers of the 44-kilometer section from the Lagos de Moreno toll road to the Guadalajara-Chapala highway will be finished by sometime in early 2016, according to the Secretariat of Communications and Transportation (SCT). This is due to two injunctions granted to communal farmers (ejidos) in Tala and Tlajomulco.

The Macrolibramiento will bypass the south of the city from Zapotlanejo to El Arenal on the Nogales highway, crossing the Mexico City, Chapala and Colima highways on its route.   Its major aim is to ease the transportation of cargo through the suburbs of Guadalajara, in particular trucks coming from the busy port of Manzanillo.
