Big solar array in Zacualco

The town most famous for the cactus fruit known as pitayas and Mexico’s ubiquitous branch and pig-hide equipale furniture will soon become the largest solar power providers in the state.

The Jalisco company Fortius is investing some 14 million dollars in a 14-hectare solar “orchard” in Zacualco de Torres, about 50 kilometers south of Guadalajara. The array located in the Centro Logistico industrial park will proved some eight megawatts generated from about 20,000 solar panels to two business in the park. The electricity generated from the panels is expected to cost about 15 percent less than normal commercial power.
