Kids can sign up for second Covid shots

More than 200,000 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine have been administered to girls and boys aged 5 to 11 years in Jalisco, the state Health Department (SSJ) reports.

pg5cOn July 30, SSJ personnel welcomed a new shipment of just over 125,000 doses, of which 96,000 are earmarked for children between 5 and 11 years of age and 30,000 for the population aged between 12 and 17.  This delivery will maintain the inoculation program for children in both the Guadalajara metropolitan area and in municipalities in the interior of the state, the SSJ says. Appointments for jabs must be made for children living in the metro area (vacunacion.jalisco.gob.mx), while in all other Jalisco municipalities, including Chapala and Jocotepec, parents or guardians should look out for announcements issued by local authorities regarding the dates and locations of the vaccine rollouts for children.

No appointments are necessary outside the Guadalajara metropolitan area, although registration must first be completed on the federal website, mivacuna.salud.gob.mx, and the required documentation shown at the vaccination sites.

Many young children who had their first jab more than three weeks ago are now eligible for second shots.

According to the CDC website, the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine for children 5 through 11 years of age is administered as a two-dose primary series, three weeks apart, but is a lower dose (10 micrograms) than that used for individuals 12 years of age and older (30 micrograms).

Meanwhile, the number of confirmed Covid cases in Jalisco continued to fall this week.
