The Jalisco government has confirmed that the definitive deadline for the mandatory license plate replacement is Friday, May 29. Authorities have stated that there will be no further extensions, and fines will begin for those who have failed to comply.
The replacement applies to vehicles with older “Maguey,” “Minerva” or “Gota” plates. Once the deadline passes, only the newer “Collage” and “Cabañas” plates will be valid for circulation in the state.
Starting June 1, traffic officers will begin applying fines to drivers caught with expired license plates. The fine for this violation starts at 2,260 pesos.
Furthermore, those who do not complete the process during this final period will have to pay the full cost of the procedure — more than 2,000 pesos — once the free period ends.
The head of the Jalisco Tax Office, Carlos Arias, has called on the 278,000 vehicle owners who have yet to complete the replacement to do so immediately to avoid penalties. As of May 26, 1,421,573 vehicles had been replaced, representing 83 percent of the total, he said.
To facilitate the process, state tax collection offices will operate with extended hours from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. until the deadline day.
To make an appointment, go to agendador-shp.jalisco.gob.mx, and follow the instructions.
The official requirements for license plate replacement are:
• Document proving ownership of vehicle (invoice, title or court order).
• Proof of payment of the 2025 vehicle registration (refrendo) fee.
• Valid official photo ID (INE, driver’s license or passport).
• Set of license plates with a design prior to the “Collage” version.
• Proof of 2025 vehicle emissions test (certificate approved or not approved, but only applicable in metro Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta, not at offices in Chapala and most other provincial towns).
