An Antonov An-2, a Soviet mass-produced single-engine biplane that first flew in 1947, will be used to “seed bomb” parts of the Primavera Forest outside Guadalajara that have been devastated by fires in recent years.

A toxic cloud of smoke from three fires raging on the outskirts of Guadalajara wafted over the metropolitan area late Monday and Tuesday, causing the air quality to spike to “dangerous” levels.  

In celebration of Mother’s Day, Guadalajara welcomes a reappearance next week by Shen Yun, a U.S.-based non-profit performing arts and entertainment company operated by the Falun Gong religious movement, known for its views against the Chinese Communist Party, anti-evolutionary stance and ties to some far right-wing organizations. 

The breeze in Guadalajara can be deceptive, making many, especially newcomers and visitors, think they have little to fear from the sun.

You can experience the genius of painter, inventor, scientist and astronomer Leonardo Da Vinci at the Da Vinci Genius Immersive Experience (Da Vinci il Genio), which will continues its run at Plaza Patria in Guadalajara until at least May 23.

In addition to a pair of performances during the May Cultural Festival (see story this page), the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra (OFJ) is having a short “Spring Serandes” season with two concerts to be held in a delightful open-air venue: the majestic patio of the Museo Cabañas, arguably Guadalajara’s most historic edifice, and a UNESCO heritage site to boot.
