Amsoc Book club meets Thursday, May 18

The American Society (Amsoc) Book Club will discuss ”Dreams of My Russian Summers”  by Andrei Makine (1995), at its Thursday, May 18, 10 a.m. meeting. This entertaining novel tells the poignant story of a boy growing up amid the harsh realities of Soviet life in the 1960s and ‘70s, and of his extraordinary love for an elegant Frenchwoman, Charlotte Lemonnier, who is his grandmother.  Movie: 1:15 p.m. to be announced.

American School hosts second annual Eco Race

The American School Foundation of Guadalajara will host its second annual Eco Race & Feria Ambiental (environmental-themed fair), Sunday, May 17. The schedule is as follows: 8 a.m.,10k and 5k races, 320 pesos to participate; 9:30 a.m., 2k race, 200 pesos to participate. Consul general shares musical knowledge

Tanya Anderson, the U.S. Consul General in Guadalajara, gives a presentation about American music as a part of the Instituto Cultural Mexicano Norteamericano’s Consulate Speaker Series.


Her lecture’s timing was deliberate: April is Jazz Appreciation Month, a time to reflect on this musical genre’s artistic and cultural importance worldwide.
