Letters To The Editor - January 14, 2017

Dear Sir,

I almost agree with Mss. Deriger and Boudreau.

Being advanced in years, my memory isn’t what it used to be. But I’m sure conservatives must have held mass demonstrations and the white lives matter group surely rioted, looted and destroyed property after the elections of 2008 and 2012. They probably ambushed a few black policemen, too. I don’t remember attacks on the developmentally challenged, but there must have been some gun totin’ deplorables who pistol whipped a slow learner or two. Oh wait a minute, no they didn’t. There weren’t any exams postponed so students could grieve, no safe places to mourn (unless you count conversations at the local pub). Life went on as usual.

I remember being disappointed when things didn’t go my way. And I demonstrated my frustration both vocally and physically. So I understand the urge to do so.  But then I turned three and learned to act more appropriately. Perhaps there is a lesson to be learned here.

I’m pretty sure that if these elite and enlightened did not learn from their parents, they will not learn from a misogynistic, bigoted, deplorable redneck like me.

One last observation. I have just finished breakfast with my wife. I’m sitting looking out the door at some beautiful trees and flowers and the sun is shining. I did not create any of these, I am merely pointing out their existence. Likewise, Mr. Trump did not create racial violence; it has existed since before either of us was born. He did not create the emphasis on the rights of the few over the rights of the many; it already existed. So crediting him with their creation is equivalent to crediting me with the existence of the sun, plants, trees and human beings. President-elect Trump did not create these situations he only pointed them out.
