State launches solar power program

At least 17,000 low-income families in 88 Jalisco municipalities will be the beneficiaries of a program to install solar panels in their homes, which could result in savings of around 5,000 pesos a year.

The 130-million-peso cost of the exercise is coming out of a Jalisco Social Welfare and Development Agency (SEDIS) contingency fund.

Workshops to train personnel to install the panels have already taken place and the project is almost ready to kick off, according to Miguel Castro Reynoso, the director of SEDIS.
