Saturday, April 19, The BRAVO! will offer a staged reading of “Mr. Thursby’s Adventure,” the first script in its Play Development Program.
Directed by Randy Warren, it features a stellar cast, including Collette Clavadetscher, Mark Heaton, Marsha Heaton, Fred Koesling, Roger Larson, Wayne Waterman, and John Ward as Mr. Thursby. The actors will hold scripts but will move about the stage as in a regular fully staged production. Playwright Esme Waters will be watching on Zoom from England. At the end of the play, there will be a “talk back” during which actors and audience can give their feedback to the playwright.
Plays are developed over time, from first draft, through many rewrites, to what the audience finally sees on stage. Throughout the process, playwrights ask for feedback from various sources. The BRAVO! Theatre is launching its Play Development Program, which will bring you—the lakeside theatre-going community—into the process to provide feedback on plays that are in the final stages before a full production.
“This part of the play writing process is extremely helpful to the playwright,” says Warren. “It’s very valuable to know what audience members and actors think about the play, the characters, what works and what might be improved. And, it’s a unique opportunity for theatre lovers here at lakeside to be part of the creative process.”
