Nudes

A group of artists who have been meeting weekly in a private studio to draw and paint from life – usually the female form – will open an exhibition of their work on Thursday, September 20, 5-9 p.m. at the Art and Sol Gallery in Ajijic.

The artists begin their sessions by trying to capture the essence of a pose in just one minute. They gradually advance to longer sessions to finish the work. The media includes pencil, charcoal, oil paints, acrylic paint and pastel.

The show, titled “Go Figure,” features works by Isabel Goode-Deblanc, Rita Harrington, Cindi DuBois, Liz Naidoff, Phoebe Monroe, Randy Tumblin, Betty Peterson and Jutta Fernald.

The Art and Sol Gallery is located on Calle Colon just a few doors toward the lake from Calle Parroquia near the Ajijic Plaza. The exhibition will remain in place through September 22.

Naked Stage

Playing at the Naked Stage Readers’ Theatre on September 21, 22 and 23 is “A Thousand Clowns” by Herb Gardner, directed by Liz White.

Written in 1962, the play was made into a movie starring Jason Robards, Jr. (he also appeared in the play). The lead character is a charming unemployed children’s show writer with Peter Pan syndrome. He’s forced to choose between social conformity and the probable loss of custody of his 11-year-old nephew. The play won the 1965 Writers Guild of America Award for Best Written American Comedy.

Curtain time is 4 p.m. Get there early. The bar opens at 3 p.m. and the box office at 3:15 p.m.

The Naked Stage is located at Rio Bravo 10A on the west end of Ajijic. The theater is behind the San Pedro Restaurant, which is open for lunch and dinner with a no-host bar. The donation is 80 pesos and reservations are recommended. Email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
